As life slows down and routines shift, our dogs shift with us. Whether you’ve recently retired or simply want a more peaceful daily rhythm with your dog, Training for the Golden Years is designed to help you build clear communication, reinforce essential manners, and deepen the companionship that makes this stage of life so meaningful.
This program is a gentle, effective alternative to our traditional Level 1: Basic Manners course, crafted with the senior lifestyle in mind. We focus on what matters most:
✔️ Calm leash walking for strolls around the block
✔️ Polite behavior at home and around visitors
✔️ Gentle redirection instead of rigid “commands”
✔️ Clear, kind cues to build mutual trust
✔️ Encouraging your dog to make good choices, without micromanaging
Whether you’ve had dogs your whole life or this is your first time training one, we meet you right where you are—with patience, clarity, and heart.
Please reach us at info@jennsdogs.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
This class is designed for guardians aged 65 and up who are welcoming a new dog into their life, refreshing training after a break, or finding that their current dog needs a new set of skills. Whether you’re adjusting to retirement, downsizing your living space, or simply seeking a calmer daily rhythm, this course meets you where you are and supports the bond you have with your dog.
That’s perfectly fine! This class is open to dogs of all ages, but we do require an evaluation prior to enrollment. That way, we can ensure every team is set up to thrive in a group class environment and that this course is the right fit for your dog’s needs and temperament.
Training for the Golden Years focuses on the skills that best support your lifestyle now. We’ll identify which cues matter most for your daily routine, introduce or refine redirection cues, and take the time needed to build those behaviors in a way that keeps learning fun and rewarding—for both of you.
Not at all. We design the exercises to fit your ability and your dog’s needs. We’ll offer seated options, mobility-friendly setups, and pacing that respects your comfort.
Absolutely. If you have a friend, family member, or support person who wants to come along, they’re welcome to attend with you. We’re here to support the whole household.
Your dog will build a foundation of clear, compassionate communication with you. We’ll focus on redirection cues, impulse control, and walking together nicely, along with general direction cues and recall. The goal is to create a reliable rhythm between you and your dog that feels calm, consistent, and connected.
This class is offered as a group course, with small class sizes for individualized attention. If you prefer one-on-one sessions, we also offer private training that follows the same curriculum and pacing.
All classes take place at the Jenn’s Dogs Training Studio in Cornelius, Oregon.
This course may be taught by any of the trainers at Jenn’s Dogs. All of our trainers are experienced in adapting training to fit a wide range of needs and prioritize positive, force-free methods.
